Discussion Post: Renaming Songs by Olivia Rodrigo using Book Titles

‘Cuz you said forever, now I drive alone past your street. *dies of heartbreak*

What a cheerful way to start a blog post! 🙂

Hey Pals!! So recently, I posted a blog where I chose some book titles that would make cool band names, and that post was quite a hit, so I decided to do something else that includes both songs and books! That post was inspired by Ashmita @ the fictional journal‘s post- characters who would most likely vibe with ts, and this post is inspired by the band post, so it’s technically inspired by Ashmita’s post…and I sincerely hope that this did NOT make sense at all. So basically, I’ll be renaming songs from Sour album by Olivia Rodrigo based on book titles (not plots, titles). I hope you enjoy. Let’s start!!

Note: This is a discussion post, so feel free to share your views in the comments. Also, I’m not going to be mentioning the authors of these books. I tried doing that, but it took the feel away. I know it doesn’t make sense, but once you read the post…well, it still won’t make sense, so let’s just ignore me and move on.

brutal- Dear Life, You Suck

Don’t worry, even I hadn’t heard of this book until I specifically searched up the word “suck” on GoodReads, so yeah, just in case you thought I’m a very productive person, I am glad to prove you wrong 🙂. This song is about Olivia rambling on and on about how much she hates her life, so it seemed only fitting.

traitor– The Kiss of Deception

This song is not about kissing, by the way, lol, but it’s about how Olivia feels betrayed by the guy she used to date, how he didn’t cheat, but is still “a traitor”. So, I thought this title depicted that feeling in a convenient way. He deceived her.

driver’s license- Since You’ve Been Gone

This one was so tricky! Nothing could capture the specificness of this title of the song, so I went for the theme behind it. The song is so raw and sad. I think since you’ve been gone was the only name that could fit and make a little bit of sense as it describes Olivia’s feelings after the guy left her.

1 step forward, 3 steps back– Ugly Love

The relationship Olivia describes in this song is super toxic! Like ugh, it’s just too ugly to be called love, hence the title of this book.

deja vu- Been There Done That

Deja vu is about Olivia singing how her ex is being the exactly same person to his new girlfriend that he was to Olivia, how they have the exact same kind of fun that Olivia used to have with him. And been there done that just sounds so accurate! 😎

good 4 u– This Savage Song

This is one of the most savage songs that I have ever heard, not just the lyrics but the way she is so vicious, the way she practically spits the words out, oh-so-savage! We are here for it, Olivia, you go, girl 🤩. Guys, remind me never to break a Pisces’ heart because this sounds scary an–hold up…*realizes she’s Pisces too*.

😶

Um uh…this just got a litttttle inconvenient, so um, let’s move on.

enough for you– Always Never Yours

Despite the cute cover, the title makes a really sad name. This song is about how Olivia always tried to be enough for the guy she dated, but he never accepted her the way she was. So no matter how hard she tries, she never really managed to be his.

happier– Still Not Over You by Nicole Snow

This person is scary, holy cowwww~*runs*

Excuse me for not including the cover pic here, but that cover is straight up horrendous!! It shows this super manly guy with a buff naked chest and just…no 🤮! If you’re interested, go search the book up and we can hate on the cover together 🙂.

As for the book title, it fits perfectly! The song is about how Olivia wants her ex to be happy with his new girlfriend but not as happy as he was with her, because she still lurrrrves him.

jealousy, jealousy– Confessions of a Klutz

No, I am not calling Olivia a klutz. I used this title because it fits the sing so well! I dont know about the book but the song is all about your usual teenager who feels super insecure and jealous of all the pretty little kids with their perfect little lives. WHO ELSE RELATES?! 🤧

I’m only kidding, I don’t relate…I guess 🤔.

favorite crime– Once Upon a Broken Heart

I feel like more than half of the songs in this album are about heartbreak but for some reason this one relates to this particular book title a little more accurately than the others. While the other songs are more like different kinds of feelings after a breakup, like anger, jealousy, etc, this one just focuses on the heartbreak.

hope ur ok– I Wish You All The Best

I love how this song is a little more positive…not that positive 🙄, but a little. I like how Olivia earnestly misses the people she’s mentioned and how she hopes the best tor them. The title of this song perfectly manages to capture that!

So, that was all. Mind you, it was hard! I have no idea if these names look good enough but they are fine, I guess. I had fun, so that counts for something!!

Now, I want you to come up with a book title to replace Olivia’s album name- Sour. Comment it down below 😀.

Ps– To all Swifties out there, four amazing bloggers- Riddhi, Panna, Sep and Simran started a collab blog- Miss Americana and Us. It’s all about them gushing over Taylor Swift and writing poems based on her songs. Do check it out, you’ll love it!

Update: Just to clear any confusion, I haven’t read all the books in this list. I browsed my GoodReads to find book titles that fit the songs.

  1. Hey there !
    What a wonderful post !!!
As for the title for “sour” , i think the right book could be ummmmm One Of Us Is Lying …….. cause in songs like traitor and deja vu its basically how the guy has moved on, and there love was just an illusion. Oh actually even “delirium” can be a good title………… yup “Delirium” it is ……

  2. These go so well!!! I know a few of the books here but I love all the songs. Totally agree on good 4 u. I love the part where she says “Like a damn sociopath” 🔥
For the album it could be Me Before You, ig..coz in the whole album she talks with the ‘I’ perspective and about her feelings and giving herself importance..?
Ps: i wanna start a new song

I kinda wanna throw my phone across the room

    1. Thanks 😁.
And oh, I have absolutely no idea 😂. I have only read two books on this list. I just stalked various people’s GoodReads to come up with interesting book titles that fit the songs 😂😂😶.

  3. This is so fun! 🤗 At first, I was surprised that you picked Since You’ve Been Gone for Driver’s License, when Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is the Morgan Matson book with an epic road trip and loads of emotional baggage, but I guess you reasoning makes sense 🤣 As for Sour – Terry Pratchett has a book called Sourcery! I’ve never read it, but that pun is so epic it would be the perfect album title 🤩

    1. Why did I not think of amh and Roger’s epic detour, that sounds like such a better title 😦😭. I’m telling you school has messed up my brain 😵.
      Sourcery sounds awesome 😍😍.
      Thanks for reading, Naemi!! 😁
