The Reading Habits Book Tag

Hey Pals!! Today, I am gonna be doing The Reading Habits Tag! Now, when I read I might look like a typical bookworm, with nothing special, just trying to find a comfortable position to sit and making weird faces from time to time when the characters make dumb decisions, but that doesn’t mean I can’t do a tag to analyse my reading habits!

I was tagged by Rabhya @ Rab’s Bookish Planet. She has an amazing book blog and she posts almost daily which is so cool, go check it out! Now, let’s get started with the tag!!

1: Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

No, anywhere the lighting is maximum is my place to read, but I usually prefer reading on my bed. As for audiobooks, I read them anywhere…except of the bathroom of course, but I would read them in the bathroom too though I don’t think my mom would be too fond of that idea 👀.

2: Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Bookmarks all the way 🤩! I have this really huge collection of both DIY and readymade bookmarks and I treasure it so much, so bookmarks it is!

3: Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

90% of the time I have to stop at the end of a chapter. It just feels right, you know? But sometimes I don’t mind stopping in the middle of a long chapter at the end of a scene break.

4: Do you eat or drink while reading?

Um, I can do both while reading but I usually don’t eat while reading a physical book. I sometimes eat my lunch/dinner while listening to an audiobook though 😁.

5: Multitasking- Music or TV while reading?

No way! I can’t focus if something else is playing around me. I don’t mind if somebody else is watching TV but I can’t do it myself.

6: One book at a time or several at once?

I can’t even play one Scrabble game online, I need to have more than one. So, you can very well imagine that it is not in me to read only one book at a time. For instance, I need to have an audiobook started even when I am reading a physical book because audiobooks provide good breaks from physical books. And I have one physical book on hold at almost all times so I read more than one book at a time.

7: Reading at home or everywhere?

Everywhere baby! This one time I literally downloaded the epub of a book on my cousin’s phone while we were standing inside a shop just because I was bored. And I literally read standing there while she bought her clothes. Later, she did do a very good job of making sure I understand just how much of a psychopath she thinks I am 🙄, but what do these non-readers know about the struggles of us readers?

8: Reading out loud or silently in your head?

In my head. Until two years ago, I used to lip sync to whatever I was reading and people always looked at me weird but I got rid of the habit, thankfully.

9: Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Y–yes, I do that 😶. But it’s only when the author has started to ramble on and on about the scenery or some other stupid stuff that I couldn’t care less about. And yes, I have skipped pages too, but that happened in only one or two books.

10: Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Until a few months back, breaking a book’s spine used to bother me like my life depended on it. But then sense was knocked into my head somehow and I realized eh, who cares? A book will still be a book no matter if the spine is broken or not. So, it doesn’t matter to me anymore.

11: Do you write in your books?

But it’s there…

I’m gonna assume this question is not supposed to refer to textbooks because ahem, my textbooks have notes scribbled in them like craaazy. My novels though don’t have anything written on them, except of The Final Empire which I have scribbled a little bit on…I kinda regret it now but well, can’t do anything about it now.

That’s all for me. I hope you enjoyed reading this. Let me know if you’ve ever skim read a book or not, down in the comments 😀.

  1. I have totally skim read, it’s the same for me, I usually only do it if the author has rambled on or if it’s during a character POV that I’m not a fan off 😂

  2. **Finds herself nodding in agreement to Nehal’s initial answers, finding it particularly reasonable that one would also want to read in the bathroom**
**Reads on, approves of reading a physical book and an audiobook simultaneously, but then realizes Nehal also READS MULTIPLE BOOKS AT THE SAME TIME IN GENERAL?!? 🤯**
**Snorts when reading about that lip syncing habit – seriously, doesn’t this slow down your reading speed like crazy??**
**YOU SOMETIMES SKIP AHEAD IN THE BOOKS YOU READ?!! 😱**
    **Broken spines are a sign of a well-loved book. They’re inevitable 🥰**
**I also only ever write in textbooks. And even then, it’s rare**
**This was such a fun tag, Nehal!**

    1. What sort of a comment is this 🤣.
**Good to know that you agree that reading in the bathroom is actually a perfectly reasonable and sensible thing to do**
**I’ll choose to take that as a compliment. If it helps though, I am not reading any book currently, be is audiobook, because exams are coming nearer**
**It didn’t actually. It used to be hard for me to read in my mind and I would start mouthing words without realising. Then over time the habit change on its own lol**
**What do you mean, you can’t tell me you’ve never skim read a book, that would be so non-evil of you, Naemi, you gotta live up to your reputation 🙄**
**Yes, broken spines can’t be prevented anyways so why bother**
**Oh, but my textbooks look ghastly 😭😂**
**Thanks a lot for such a fun comment, Naemi! 🤓**

      1. It’s the best sort of comment, obviously😇
And no, of course I don’t skim read books, thy most extreme evilness! (Except possibly 400 page textbooks I was supposed to read for university in, like, one day…)

      2. That’s the university workload for you 🤷‍♀️
But if you skim read boring books, they become even more boring because you’re even less invested! Then you can just go ahead and DNF them while you’re at it… 😁

  3. There are these boring parts which are not even important, so I’m sure everyone here skips those😂
I use neither bookmark nor random stuff. I read e books more than physical books. But if I read physical books then I use both. For one book, it’s bookmark and for the other book it’s random stuff.
    This was fun to read.
    Thanks for tagging me!

    1. Yeah, I think most people don’t have enough time to read about the details of every single room the main character goes in 🙄.
Ohh, I read very less ebooks actually. It’s usually audiobooks or physical ones for me, so I use bookmarks, it just feels kind of satisfying.
Thanks Dhriti! And my pleasure, looking forward to your post 😃.

  4. i didn’t know breaking spines had a whole discourse about it until after i joined blogging! (sidenote, how do you even read properly without opening the book correctly?) i don’t listen to music while i read either, it’s just distracting. but i tend to lose bookmarks pretty easily so it’s random pieces of paper/hairclips/anything within reach for me!

    1. Apparently it does. It’s surprising how many trivial things the book community has made into trends and stuff 😂.
And honestly, I don’t know. I was reading The Final Empire and the spine was literally so annoying, I was hoping somebody would come and hold the book open for me lol.
And yeah, music is distracting for me too. Sometimes I use my phone as a bookmark if I can’t fine one 😂.
      Thanks for the comment, Jan!

  5. I don’t do a lot of tags, but I love reading other people’s answers to get to know them better. I will try and do this one later today so I don’t forget. I love your answers, many of my answers will be similar to yours.

  6. I can’t read several books at a time and I can’t even eat while reading tho I do agree with reading in bed cuz reading in bed in winter while in a Blankie burrito is the best feeling EVER

  7. Hahaha I thought I was the only one who reads ahead when there is too much description given by the author.

As much as I know that people like writing notes in books, I still think it should be criminalised. Books are meant to be shared but with notes in them the next person’s opinion gets biased. 🙈

    1. I can understand, I am so sick of doing geo 😭.
I switched to physics now our tuition teacher is taking a full physics test on Sunday ugh!
Anyways, thanks for the comment though 🤩.

  8. Hi! Great post! I especially relate to the multiple books at the same time and the broken spine bits! In fact, I am reading two books (one physical, one on my phone) right now!
And about the broken spine… I can’t really do anything about it as I usually buy second-hand books from a tiny store opposite a restaurant ten minutes away from my house because it is the nearest (and only) bookstore and the one a little bigger and further away closed down years ago😟 Sad, I know, especially considering that I don’t like shopping for books online. It really bugs me that bookstores seem to be becoming less popular in my area.

    1. Thanks a lot, Nandini!
And yay, good to know we relate!
Ugh, tell me about it! There’s only a few good bookstores in my city too and they’re very far away. Recently a service started nearby that lets you rents second hand/new books for a week and the cost is very cheap. I make use of that a lot now.

  9. ok wow. I must ask you to show the pictures of your bookmarks Nahu!
and I agree with the reading everywhere thing. I was at this restaurant once, with my friends, waiting for food to arrive, and I read 2 whole chapters. XD. I didn’t read multiple books earlier, but I do now.

  10. THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN!! also ahh you listen to audiobooks during meals? IT IS MY LIFE’S AMBITION TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT, but I don’t think my mom would approve of THAT idea. And HOW do you not lose all of your bookmarks, I AM SERIOUSLY IN AWE. I remember having a couple of bookmarks a few years back, but i NEVER found them whenever i wanted them, which finally led me to give up entirely. LOVED READING THIS!

    1. Yes, most of the times I watch Netflix or TV while eating food, but sometimes I listen to audiobooks too. Don’t worry, maybe someday you will be allowed to do that too 😂.
I have this envelope where I keep my entire collection in (the envelope has torn now but I still use it).
      Thanks so muchhhh, Anoushkaaa!! 😀

      1. My idea is not related to books anyhow.
As you have might know by now, that my niche is health and wellness, so I am thinking to write something related to most asked questions or myths and I will answer those. 🙂
Our niche/blogs type are surely very different, but I know there’s so much to learn from your work. Similarly, I have come across several other people (many of those you know already), whose work has intrigued me. I’m here to learn, appreciate other’s work and create better blogs. 😁

      2. Oh it’s surely not the next blog 😅
Currently I’m working on a workout blog.
I visit people’s work to adopt things/style with which they write. It’s important to keep on innovating and I’m learning that.

  11. I read books everywhere, everytime I find myself waiting for someone or something. I have some ebooks on my phone so when I can’t actually be holding a book, I can use my phone.
And no way will I stop before getting to the end of the chapter.
I’ve GOT to finish what I started, okay? Yeah.🙂
I don’t write IN my books, I write on a tiny piece of paper and glue it on the page. That’s prolly a weird habit but…
This was really fun to read.

    1. I know right? It feels like when I’m not reading I’m wasting time or something.

And ooh nice, reminds me of sticky notes, it’s not a weird habit though 😀.

      And thanks so much!!
Also sorry for the late reply, I somehow missed the comment 😓😅.
