The Totally Should’ve Book Tag

Hey Pals! Today I am doing The Totally Should’ve Book Tag. Thank you so much Claudia @ Claudiareadsbooks for tagging me. I am really grateful to you. Claudia is a massive bookworm that has some of the best bookish content I have come across, from fun tags to raving about her favorite books, she misses nothing. This tag was created by a Booktuber- Emma @ emmmabooks. Now, without much ado, let’s begin the tag!!

1: Totally should’ve gotten a sequel

The Doldrums and the Helmsley Curse by Nicholas Gannon. This is the sequel to The Doldrums and I love this book a lot. It was hilarious, fun and mysterious. I love these characters so much, they are all just so full of life and make a great team. I just wish I could read another story about these characters!

2: Totally should’ve had a spin-off series

The Uglies series!! I just want more of this because that’s like my favorite series and just…

3: An author who totally should write more books

Alex Light– the author of The Upside of Falling.

This book was pretty good. Definitely not the most amazing thing out there but it was written really well. I think this author should try her hand at more contemporary books because I think they’ll turn out good.

4: A character who totally should’ve ended up with someone else

Katniss from The Hunger Games series. I felt (spoiler alert) like she neither loved Peeta nor Gale and she easily let go of Gale which I didn’t like at all. Come on, that guy was her friend, it’s like she didn’t miss him at all! But at the same time, I think a girl like her is so much better off without either of them, lol.

5: Totally should’ve ended differently

The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. This series went downhill from the 6th book and the last book could’ve been so much better if not for the ending. The last two or three chapters were so disappointing. I felt like the author just couldn’t decide how to end the series, so he wrote whatever he thought would look fine. And don’t even get me started on the very last paragraph 🤯! It was so bad that it was obvious that the author was out of ideas (Sorry that was a rant, I didn’t mean to harm anyone’s feelings).

6: Totally should’ve had a movie franchise

The Magnus Chase trilogy by Uncle Rick. These books would make an amazing movie franchise! I would love to see these characters brought to life, it would be dang good 🤩.

7: Totally should’ve had a TV show

The Uglies Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. I love it because of the amazing plot and the characters and the twists, just everything about it is awesome. The fact that these characters get an operatiom to look “pretty” forever is such an interesting concept and would make a fabulous TV show!

8: Totally should’ve had only one point-of-view

Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney. This book had three perspectives, and I found Adam’s perspective to be useless. I mean, technically all three were needed in the story, but the guy who was narrating Adam’s parts was doing an incredible job of being thoroughly horrible at it. This book in itself pretty much sucked (long story), and I didn’t enjoy Adam’s narration all that much, it would have been better if I didn’t have to read it.

9: Totally should’ve had a cover change

The Soulful Seeker by Poonam Chadha Joseph. This is a poetry book and I have only read a few poems in it. It’s actually my sister’s book so on one boring day, I picked it up randomly. The few poems I read were utterly fantastic. The problem I have with the cover of this book is that the face of the woman just doesn’t work for me and I wish that it was something different. I mean come on, doesn’t it look weird?!

10: Totally should’ve kept the original covers

The Twilight Saga series by Stephanie Meyer. Honestly, what was wrong with those obscure, dark and mysterious covers? Why did they get movie-tie-in editions, which I don’t think suck but they are so cliche!

11: Totally should’ve stopped at book one

Would you mind if I give an unpopular opinion? The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 😛. I just didn’t see the point in stretching the story, I felt like the second book was unnecessary and the third one had a barely-developed plot. The last two books could’ve been combined to form a short little ending and fitted into the first one itself 😂.

  1. This is great tag and I love your responses! Agree with The Hunger Games, the romance was seriously lacking there. And I Had to add The Doldrums.. I don’t know how I’ve never come across it before but it sounds like such a fantastic read!
Thanks so much for sharing, Nehal!

  2. I would love to watch a Magnus Chase movie – at least as long as they do a better job than on the Percy Jackson one 😅🤣

Your Hunger Games opinions might be even more offending than your Cursed Child ones, though – Catching Fire and Mockingjay are the books were the politics and trauma really unfold, and Katniss and Peeta’s relationship is one of my favorite ones I’ve ever seen in fiction!! Did you really just tear apart all of that in one go???! 😭😭😭😭

And I disagree with you about The Last Battle, too. Not in that the ending was bad (Because it was! Although I actually like the first half with that stupid donkey even less than the secon one 🙄), but in that C.S. Lewis didn’t know what he was doing. Seeing that The Chronicles of Narnia was written as a Christian allegory, I think he always had the ending of “Narnia=heavenly place where everything will be better if you believe and are a good person” in mind… That still doesn’t mean I like it, though 🙄

    1. Yes same, us Riordan fans will be very mad if we get a bad adaption again 😂.
Okay, I never said catching fire and Mockingjay were bad, don’t hate me 😭☹️. I do have some grudge against the final book but the second one was a solid read. I just loved the first book a bit too much and found the end of it pretty satisfying 😛.
You know I don’t like Peeta and katniss, but they’re a pretty famous couple so just ignore me 😂.
Oh I was really enjoying the last battle too! The donkey thing was kind of twisty. I was talking about the last chapter.
Oh, I didn’t know about the Christian allegory thing, sorry 😅. Well, he still could’ve given us details about the end instead of leaving it so open ended 😭.

  3. The Doldrums book cover is SO cute. I’m definitely going to read it.

Katniss & Gale seemed so made for each other. It really didn’t make sense that she just let him go. And yesss, totally should have stopped at one book!!!!!!

I couldn’t read beyond the 4th Chronicles of Narnia. It just didn’t feel like the story was going somewhere new.

    1. Please do, the books are great, fun middle grade reads 🤩.
Finally someone kinda agrees 😂. I would’ve loved if katniss ended up with neither of the two guys, she doesn’t even need a guy!!
Oh not a bad thing, the Narnia series was good, not the best or anything.

  4. The hunger games work best as a trilogy, and katniss and peeta are one of the best couples, I take no other options sorrynotsorry 😅😅😅
Also I didn’t like how narnia ended either, but seeing as cs lewis was Catholic I knew that ending was coming (sort of an allegory for the end of the world)
I think I have the upside of falling on my tbr, I should get to it sooner than later!

    1. Yeah well, to each their own. I mean, the last two books weren’t bad in any way…I just found the ending of the first one a bit too satisfying. 😅
      Oh, I see.
And that was a good book, fun and light!
      Thanks for the comment, Jan!!

  6. Ooh, thank you very much for tagging me!
And, yup, I kind of agree with you about the Katniss and Gale part… I wish they would’ve still been in touch… not just forget about the friendship they had for so long… But I didn’t mind the fact that she ended up with Peeta, hehe…
Noice post! I think I’ll enjoy doing this tag!
AND I AM DEF GOING TO HAVE A LOOK AT THE UGLIES SERIES.

    1. Pleasure!
Yes, exactly! Even if she didn’t fall in love with him, she could’ve stayed in touch with him, she let him go so easily.
Thanksss! Can’t wait to read your answers!
Oh the uglies series is really good!! Kind of descriptive but still good 😁.

  7. This post is a treat!!!
I totally agree with you on so many points! Hunger Games shouldn’t have had romance at all in my opinion and definitely not a love triangle. Katniss’ world is in a life and death situation and she’s thinking about who she should end up with.

The Upside of Falling is such a good book. I wish I could get more of Alex Light books. She describes emotions so well!

Chronicles of Narnia’s last book was a letdown. Especially how Narnia ends. I would’ve been happier not knowing that. (Ignorance is a bliss 😅)

I absolutely loved the post!!! ❤️

    1. Thanks a lot!
Exactly! Katniss shouldn’t really have had the time to worry about two boys when her life and the future of the entire world was resting on her shoulders 🙄.

Yes, I know right! The trope of fake dating was kind of obvious but i liked how she portrayed emotions too!

Ignorance is a bliss indeed 😂. The last book would have been so much better, I think, if the author had made the ending just a little different.

      Aah, thanks so much, Shruvi!!
