Mid Year Book Freakout Tag 2021 (Is half the year gone already πŸ˜Ά?)

No way, absolutely no freaking way do I accept to believe that half the year is gone and all I did was sit back and procrastinate.

Hey Pals!! No but seriously, I literally freaked out when I realized half the year is gone 😱. Like did anybody even notice!? Well I so didn’t until various bloggers’ Mid Year tags started popping up on my Reader and I was “shook”. But anyways, today I am doing one my favourite book tags, and that is The Mid Year Book Freakout Tag.

Click here to check out the tag I did in 2020.

For those unaware, this tag is basically done around June and July when the half the year has passed, and it is just a fun analysis of how your reading year has been so far.

Sounds fun, eh? 😁 Let’s do this!!

So I haven’t read that many books so far 😭. I’ve only managed to finish 29 books (excluding the one I DNFed and the ones I am currently reading) 😭, which is killing me coz I think that’s too less 😭. Last year I had read 55 books by mid-July 😭 so this is a huge downfall 😭. But you probably don’t wanna see me rant here 😭 (bad friends) 😭, so I’ll just get on with the tag 😭:

1: Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2021 😭

Okay, I’m stopping with the crying emojis now~

For this one, I’ll be taking The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (yes, it wasn’t even hard to pick just one book, that’s how less books I’ve read so far 🀧). This book is just plain beautiful. That’s the only way to describe it. It’s a heart-wrenching tale and by the end, even though I didn’t cry throughout the entirety of the book, I felt my eyes wet a little because that ending was just…😭 (this is me forgetting I promised not to use this emoji). So yeah, this book is definitely my favorite one far this year so far.

2: Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2021

Once again 😭, haven’t read enough sequels, but A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir was a fantastic sequel. While I didn’t enjoy the second book in The Ember Quartet series, I really loved this one and I’m hoping to get to the final book soon.

3: New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

There could be a lot of answers for this one, but I’m gonna go for Sunkissed by Kasie West.

4: Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

*Ahem* none actually 😢.

5: Biggest Disappointment

This is another one I have quite a few answers for. But I’m going for A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’engle. I actually reread this book because I had loved it the first time I had read it, so I was hoping to love it again, but…it was awful! This was absolutely terrible. I marvel at the fact that I once gave this book 5 stars and now I’m giving it 1 star 😐. I’ll do a full review because my thoughts are too wild to fit into one small paragraph.

6: Biggest Surprise

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson. This is my first book by this author and I hadn’t expected to like it this much, I definitely expected to enjoy it but I didn’t expect that it would be so…sweet? And deep even.

7: New Favourite Author (Debut or New to You)

I’m going for Khaled Hosseini for this one, with Karen M. McManus as close second. Though I’ve only read The Kite Runner by Hosseini so far, I’m definitely planning to read more books by him because I just loved that book. As for Karen McManus, she has an amazing way of writing books that have that addicting vibe to them and you can’t put them down until you’re done with the story.

8: Newest Fictional Crush

Omg! So many, unlike last year when I had none. But the one who is totally owning my heart right now is Nate Macauley from One Of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus. That boy, aah I love him so much 😍.

9: A Book That Made You Cry

None actually, but I almost cried at ending of The Kite Runner and I spent the whole day bawling over All The Light We Cannot See too, but the tears didn’t come. So yeah, almost cried.

10: A Book That Made You Happy

None πŸ™‚.

11: What Books do You Beed to Read by the End of the Year

You really wanna know? Sure, I’ll give you a little glimpse of my TBR πŸ™‚

As if I’ll be able to finish these by the end of the year. It’ll be a miracle if I am able to finish them before Ragnarok πŸ™‚.

For real though, I’ve had this list made since the last 3 years or something and I’ve barely been able to remove 4-5 series from this list πŸ˜ͺ.

So anyways, I’m hoping to read A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir by the end of this year. And also reread at least 3 Harry Potter books.

Considering we don’t usually tag anybody for this tag, feel free to do it of you are interested. I had so much fun doing this πŸ˜€. Let me know how many books you read this year so far, or maybe don’t, because if it is more than mine, I’ll just keep crying even more 😭. I’m just kidding by the way, do lemme know down in the comments πŸ˜‚.

I hope you enjoyed seeing me bawl reading the post πŸ˜ƒ.

  3. Its June already?😢 Didn’t the year start like yesterday?

I wanna read The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaleid Houssani!!!
And One Of Us Is Lying is incredibly. Seriously Karen M.Mcmanus is a genius. You should deffo try the sequel..I am sure you’ll love it..

And most of the books on your TBR are on mine too!! The Princess Diaries is something you should really really read. Its light and fun and you’ll end up having a crush on one of the characters atleast🀩

    Cool post!!

    1. I know right ☹
Oh yes, you should definitely read it!! I need to read a thousand splendid suns too, hopefully will do by the end of the year!
I was kinda delaying the sequel coz I heard the characters will be different, and Nate only makes a few appearances πŸ™
I have watched the movies of Princess diaries, will definitely read the books 😍.
      Thanks Akshita!! πŸ˜€

      1. This is coming from a fellow Nate lover, that however the appearances are less you will deffo get an insigjt into Nate and Bronwyn’s relationship. Also, the characters are related to the characters in the first book
Ahh the movies are quite different from the books. Especially the 2nd movie. The most different person is grandma. Truly, when you see the difference its almost funnyπŸ˜‚
        You’re welcome!!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Ah, I might read it then 😌. But I don’t know if I’ll watch the movies coz movies ruin how I imagine the characters in my head if that makes sense 😬

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Haven’t you already watched the movies? I was talking about The Princess Diaries πŸ˜…
And yes, its kind of like a unspoken rule in my head to read the book first. I have violated it only once with the TFIOS movie and Dil Bechara.

      4. Ohhhhhh I thought one of us is lying πŸ˜‚. For a second I was like- these books have a movie? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Oh πŸ˜‚. Same for me, kinda

    1. Yes, please read the kite runner, you’ll love it! Especially if you loved all the light. And I don’t know why I didn’t have tears, but I was definitely throwing a huge tantrum in my house πŸ˜‚πŸ˜
Yeah, a little πŸ˜‚. There are still way more books in my mental tbr.
I hope to read them soon too!

A grand total of twelve. That’s.. actually not a lot πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
*anyway* I may do this tag but I’m too lazy so… okay then.

  6. Omg! It’s mid year already. If it’s any consolation, I haven’t read even half of the number of books you have read this year. I loved the Kite Runner. Princess Diaries is too good. You have got to read that!

    1. I know right, it definitely doesn’t feel like June.
Omg yeah, that makes me feel loads better for some reason πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜³.

  7. I approve of so much in this tag! The Kite Runner and All the Light We Cannot See are awesome, rereading Harry Potter is never bad, that TBR list looks epic, and I never made it through A Wrinkle in Time because I thought it was so boring πŸ˜‚
Also, I’m currently at 41 books read, but goodreads is still sending me messages that I’m several books behind if I want to make my reading challenge πŸ˜… So don’t feel bad – no matter how much you read, it’s probably never enough anyway 🀣

  8. Great post!
I read Sunkissed quite recently, and enjoyed it a lot! Hope you enjoy it when you read it!!
So many of these books are on my TBR – The Raven Cycle, the illuminae files….. oh, and I really want to read the Ember in the Ashes series. And Mistborn too, but I think I’m too small to read it yet πŸ˜…πŸ˜… maybe i should just wait for a few years

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m glad you liked it, I hope so too.
You should definitely check out an ember in the ashes, it was a truly enjoyable book for me.
Omg same, I kept delaying reading the mistborn trilogy coz even I thought maybe I was too young πŸ˜‚, but now I think I am just too not in the mood, haha. Thanks a lot Jenna πŸ˜€

  9. Nehal, don’t worryβ€”I’ve read a grand total of NINE books so far this year. You have nothing to be stressed about πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

But yesss The Kite Runner is so good!! Both that book and All the Light We Cannot See broke my heart and stomped it into pieces πŸ₯²

And I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed A Reaper at the Gates!!! Can’t wait to see what you think of Sky (and don’t forget have some tissues on hand πŸ˜ƒ)

    Loved the post Nehal!!

  10. It is crazy that half the year is gone already! I was just telling another blogger that I haven’t yet picked up one of McManus’s books, but I know I need to get on with that. I’ve had The Kite Runner sitting on my bookshelf unread for way too long, too.
